How does a town with a population of 701 have more than 100 heroin abuse cases?
Welcome to Wrightstown, New Jersey.
It’s in Southern New Jersey, adjacent to Ft. Dix and McGuire Air Force Base.
How does something get that far out of control?
To what extent are military personnel involved?
All interesting questions. I’m sure answers exist, and we need to find them, and soon.
New Jersey has a number of cities with problems — Camden, Elizabeth, Newark, Patterson and Trenton readily come to mind. But Trenton is ranked 63rd on the incidence per capita of heroin abuse. 63rd! Newark is even further down the list, at 99th.
These larger cities have resources, and apparently the programs are working. It’s small town America that’s in trouble.
With all of the other challenges we face, can we deal with this, too? Do we have a choice?
