Price gouging on coronavirus testing.
As reported by Aetna Insurance and The New York Times, some test developers have been charging public agencies as much as 25 times the advertised price of their coronavirus test kits.
Gibson Diagnostics Labs, a company in Irving, Texas, has charged insurers as much as $2,315 for a single COVID-19 test, the Times found. And while Americans don’t have to pay for the tests right away, they’ll eventually have to pay for them in the form of higher insurance premiums.(1)
On it’s website, Gibson advertises the cost of the test as $150.
When asked by a reporter, the company claimed that the $2,315 price per test was a “clerical error.”
