STDs: Undoing Progress

In a new report from the CDC, there were 580,000 cases of gonorrhea in the US in 2018. That number was last seen in 1991. There were 1.7 million cases of chlamydia, the most ever recorded in the US. Syphilis is back up to 1991 levels. Overall, the number of cases of these diseases was up 5% over 2017. Approximately one person in every 560 in the US has one of these three diseases.

That’s a lot of patients and a lot of medical treatment costs. Not to mention the impact on health insurance.

You may think you’re young and bulletproof but that isn’t so.

Be careful out there.
